Customized ATEX Drives

Explosion-proof drives that fit, perform, and are fully certified. BEGE develops customized ATEX solutions for complex processes and demanding industrial environments.

Explosion-Proof Drive Technology for Critical Environments

BEGE designs tailor-made ATEX drives for industrial applications in hazardous areas. Instead of standard products, we deliver customer-specific drive solutions that meet strict regulations and are precisely matched to each application.

The Challenge of ATEX Systems

In industries such as marine & offshore, food production, pharmaceuticals, and bulk handling, strict explosion-safety requirements apply. At the same time, no two installations are alike. Non-standard installation dimensions, extreme temperatures, or heavy loads make standard drives unsuitable.

What begins as a technical challenge often turns into a complex search. For components that fit, suppliers who truly understand the requirements, and the certainty that everything is properly certified. The solution: a drive designed for both the process and the specific ATEX zone requirements.

Custom ATEX Drives

BEGE supplies fully custom ATEX drive systems that exactly match technical specifications and required safety class. Everything aligns; mechanically, electrically, and administratively. Each system is suitable for the correct ATEX zone, fully documented, certified, and safe to operate.

The result is a durable, explosion-proof drive that meets every technical and legal requirement. Compact where needed, robust where it matters; always focused on operational reliability. A single point of contact handles engineering, assembly and certification, making the process faster, more efficient and safer.

ATEX Drive Components for Power Transmission Technology

BEGE supplies ATEX-certified motors, gearboxes, gear motors, and control systems for applications in hazardous environments. All components are delivered with the proper documentation and declarations of conformity, tailored to the zone, the application, and the installation environment.

ATEX Explosion-Proof Motors

BEGE offers a range of certified custom ATEX motors for industrial use in both gas and dust zones. These include robust three-phase motors for explosive atmospheres such as mines, (petro)chemical plants, and refineries; vibratory motors for dosing and conveying systems; and drum motors for hygienic applications such as in the food industry.

These Ex motors are manufactured in compliance with applicable ATEX standards and are resistant to moisture, heat, and chemical stress. Whether integrated into customized projects or used as stand-alone components, they are highly versatile, with specifications that can be tailored to each application.

ATEX Gearboxes for Industrial Applications

BEGE ATEX gearboxes are engineered for applications requiring high torque in hazardous conditions. The planetary gear units deliver high gear ratios in a compact housing. The bevel gear units combine power with flexible assembly and positioning options.

Both types are suitable for explosive atmospheres within Group II, Category 2G (gas) and 2D (dust), and can be deployed in Zones 1, 2, 21, and 22. With torque capacities up to 270,000 Nm and a robust design, they withstand intensive thermal and mechanical loads.

Customized ATEX Gear Motors

For applications where drive and reduction must work seamlessly together, BEGE supplies customer-specific ATEX gear motors. Our helical gear motors, worm gear motors, and helical bevel gear motors combine high reliability with a compact footprint.

They are available with ATEX motor integration, as well as various gear ratios and thermally balanced enclosures. These features make them suitable for use in both gas and dust zones. These gear motors are designed for environments where space is limited, but safety and performance are critical. All versions can be adapted to the mechanical requirements of the installation.

ATEX Panels and Controls

BEGE also provides solutions for operation and automation in hazardous environments. The iXP2 control panel is designed for use in Zones 1, 2, 21, and 22, enabling safe and intuitive process control, even in the most demanding conditions.

Thanks to its robust housing, high ingress protection rating and user-friendly interface, the panel is not affected by dust, moisture, or temperature fluctuations. By integrating into ATEX drive systems, it serves as a reliable link between people and machines. For applications where safety and control must go hand in hand, BEGE also supplies ATEX-compliant frequency converters and control cabinets, tailored to the process environment and classification zone.

Frequently Asked Questions about ATEX Drives

Below are answers to the most common questions about ATEX motors and drive systems.

What is an ATEX drive?

An ATEX drive is a motor or drive system that is designed for use in environments where there is a risk of explosion, such as those containing flammable gases or dust. ATEX stands for ATmosphères EXplosibles and refers to the European Directive 2014/34/EU. The legislation outlines the safety requirements for equipment intended for use in hazardous areas, and aims to prevent explosions or ignition within installations.

Which ATEX zones does BEGE support?

BEGE supplies solutions for both gas zones (0, 1, and 2) and dust zones (20, 21, and 22). Each drive is tailored to the specific classification of the environment, including temperature class, the presence of vapors or particles, and the mission-critical load. In the design process, all relevant zone-specific risks and associated technical requirements are taken into account. This ensures that the system complies with both the regulations and real-world operating conditions.

What is the difference between an ATEX motor and a standard motor?

An ATEX motor is designed to never act as a source of ignition. Unlike standard motors, ATEX motors feature special seals, explosion protection, and surface temperature monitoring. These features equate to a higher IP protection rating. They are certified for specific zones based on a thorough risk assessment.

What materials are used in ATEX motors?

Depending on the application, ATEX motors can be supplied in aluminum, cast iron, or stainless steel. Aluminum is lightweight and suitable for standard environments, while cast iron offers better vibration damping and mechanical strength. In industries where corrosion, hygiene, or chemical exposure play an important role, such as in the offshore industry or food production, stainless steel is the preferred choice. The choice of material is closely linked to zone classification, temperature rating, and environmental influences.

Does BEGE also supply complete ATEX drive systems?

Yes. BEGE supplies both individual ATEX components and fully integrated ATEX drive systems, tailored precisely to the application. From motor and gearbox to frequency inverter and coupling, every component is selected according to compatibility, zone classification, and process requirements. By keeping engineering, assembly, and coordination in-house, BEGE delivers one cohesive system that demonstrably complies with applicable ATEX directives and is ready for immediate use.

Are ATEX drives resistant to corrosive environments?

Yes, ATEX drives can be specifically configured for corrosive environments such as those in the pharmaceutical industry, food production, or offshore installations. Performance is maintained even under harsh conditions thanks to the use of coated cast iron, stainless steel housings, special seals and corrosion-resistant bearings. BEGE adapts each system to the chemical, thermal, and mechanical demands of the environment, without compromising safety or reliability.

What is the difference between ATEX 114 and ATEX 153?

ATEX 114 (Directive 2014/34/EU): defines the technical and legal requirements for equipment and protective systems used in explosive atmospheres. This directive is aimed at manufacturers and suppliers. ATEX 153 (Directive 1999/92/EC) focuses on employers and specifies how workplaces in ATEX zones must be designed to ensure the safety of employees.
