Rob de Groot
Service & Maintenance All-Rounder at BEGE
Rob de Groot has been with BEGE for 25 years and has seen virtually every part of the company from the inside. From the workshop and purchasing to service, maintenance, and knowledge transfer: he steps in wherever he’s needed. On October 5, 2026, he celebrated his anniversary. A good moment to look back.
From the road to BEGE
Before joining BEGE, Rob was constantly on the move: customer visits, service calls, training sessions at home and abroad. He enjoyed the technical work, but wanted more variety and a job that didn’t keep him behind the wheel all the time. In 2001, he found that at BEGE.
The combination of electrical engineering and mechanics appealed to him, and so did the culture of a company where people actually know each other.
A true all-rounder
In 25 years, Rob has held more positions than you can count on one hand. The workshop, production, bill of materials, purchasing, repairs, MIG encoders, he’s done it all.
Today he has a broad, service-oriented role: from building and vehicle maintenance to technical support for colleagues. “I enjoy helping people. If something needs doing, I’m happy to figure out what I can do.”

Quick thinking makes all the difference
If Rob had to name one defining quality of BEGE, it would be speed. He recalls a situation where a customer in the fishing industry urgently needed a drive system, as the boat was about to leave. The team pulled together and got it done. “BEGE’s strength is in the speed with which we can build something. When a customer has a serious problem, we put our heads together and find a way.”
From family business to a larger organization
When Rob started, BEGE was a much smaller operation. He watched teams grow, departments take shape, and the Ströter acquisition unfold. Processes went digital, roles became more specialized. Yet one thing stayed consistent through all those years. “What I’ve always appreciated is that we’re all on a first-name basis. It keeps that family business feeling alive.”
“It’s really the colleagues who make the work so enjoyable. You know each other, and you’re not just a number here.”
Sharing knowledge, bringing colleagues along
Whereas knowledge used to sit with one person, Rob believes it’s increasingly important for colleagues to be versatile. He played a key role in transferring knowledge around MIG encoders and the assembly process.
His broad experience means he can contribute across many areas and genuinely help think through improvements.
Enjoying going to work
After 25 years, Rob is still a hands-on person. He loves variety, solving problems, and the people around him. New colleagues, changing workflows: he finds it all interesting. Working together also means disagreeing sometimes, but keeping the conversation going is how you move forward. That’s Rob’s approach. And it’s why, after all this time, he still looks forward to coming in.
